GARLAND, Texas - A semi-truck hauling 80,000 pounds of medical supplies ended up on its side at a crucial intersection, blocking traffic for hours early Tuesday morning.
The driver lost control about 3:30 a.m. and the truck tipped over on its left side in the westbound lanes of I-30 under the new ramp of the Bush Turnpike in Garland.
For a short time, emergency crews allowed one lane of traffic to pass on the right, but once a heavy-duty crane was brought to the scene to upright the truck, all westbound lanes of I-30 were closed.
Highway workers were finally able to upright the rig around 6:15 a.m.
However, police tell FOX 4's Adrian Arambulo that the westbound lanes of I-30 could remain closed for another 60 to 90 minutes until the trailer can be separated from the truck.
Traffic is being diverted onto the service road and the backup is building.
